Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics is the full-form for CEREC. CEREC crowns are typically fabricated from extremely strong ceramic and are designed, produced, and bonded with the aid of computer technology (CAD/CAM). CAD/CAM software uses cutting-edge digital mapping technology to build a computer image of your tooth and record the inside of your mouth, resulting in a highly detailed and accurate record. Also, these crowns appear and feel like your natural teeth, fit flawlessly, and are usually inexpensive. In many cases, a CEREC crown is the best option.
What makes same-day CEREC crowns unique is that they can be milled from start to finish in the dentist's office, and you can obtain your new crown in roughly 2 hours.
If you've ever seen a 3-D printer in action, you'll understand how this process will work:
- Open your mouth wide for the camera. The tooth that requires a crown will be photographed digitally by your dentist.
- The model will be made. Your dentist will use CAD/CAM technology to produce a digital model of your tooth from those digital photographs.
- The machine takes the model and mills a three-dimensional tooth out of ceramic. It simply takes roughly 15 minutes to complete this operation.
- The new crown is polished and fitted inside your mouth by your dentist.
What are the Benefits of CEREC Same-Day Crowns?
Procedure completed on the same day
You can go into a dentist's office and walk out with your new CEREC crown the same day, rather than waiting up to two weeks. The dentist will use computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) technology to capture digital images of your tooth, design a crown, and then fabricate the crown in the office for placement on the same day.
The crown's appearance
Your friends may never notice that you have a crown on your tooth. A CEREC crown looks more natural and closely resembles the surrounding teeth because it does not have a metal core. The lack of a black core to break light reflection improves the aesthetic look.
Reliable and strong
The 3D scanner is extremely precise, and the resulting scan closely resembles your mouth in real life, ensuring that the crown created using the technology will fit properly. Same-day crowns are made of porcelain, a high-quality dental material. It is a strong material that, once bonded, provides long-term stability.
